what is the best etiquette for wording about wedding gifts?
Having small private wedding with come and go reception after.
Couple has been together for a while, has children etc
Would like to let guests know that gifts are not necessary, or if they would like they can do a gift card
There is no polite or correct way to mention, suggest or say anything about gifts except to say that you would like any gifts be made to your favorite charity instead. You cannot ask for a gift under any circumstances and to try and tell guests what to bring you on an invitation is beyond tacky. Word of mouth will have to do here and when you do not register anywhere people will get the idea that you don’t want things. You will smile and graciously accept what ever you get remembering that a guest is under NO OBLIGATION to bring any sort of gift at all.
